MY PURSUIT OF KNOWLEDGE
STEM or the humanities?
At the historic William Jewell College, I began my college career as a physics, chemistry, and mathematics triple major with plans to study chemical engineering. As I dove headfirst into all things STEM, I began to miss the creative thrills that accompanied less clinical subject matters. At the end of my sophomore year, I did a complete 180, deciding to finish my college career as an English major.

Fields of Study
English
Bachelor of Arts Degree (B.A.)
As an English major at Jewell, I learned high-level thinking, reading, and writing. Through a study of critical theory, creative writing, and United States, British, and World literatures, I cultivated a deep awareness of human issues: historical, political, and cultural.
Applied Critical Thought & Inquiry
To earn the Applied Critical Thought and Inquiry major, I completed three hands-on experiences, applying classroom learning to real-world challenges. This degree involved an active learning experience from each of the following areas: Reflective Citizenship, Disciplinary Scholarship, and Active Engagement.
Pryor Leadership Studies Program
The Pryor Leadership Studies Program is internationally recognized and one of the top leadership programs in the nation.
As a Pryor Fellow, I engaged in several significant learning experiences. An Outward Bound trip allowed me to practice leadership and team building in the Florida Everglades. A Vocational Internship helped me explore my career interests and a Volunteer internship allowed me to practice servant leadership. In the last semester, I participated in a comprehensive Capstone Course that asked me to complete a group Leadership Legacy project.
Pryor Legacy Project
Part of the Capstone Course in the last semester of the Pryor Leadership Studies Program entails a Legacy Project where students encapsulate their leadership experiences into one group-focused project.
The graduating class of 2020 selected New Roots for Refugees as the recipient of our legacy project: the establishment of a 50-acre training farm.
